GEAR

My number 1 pick. There are much fancier poles (and lighter) but these have saved me on multiple occasions. If I am traveling with a heavy pack especially on steep and rocky terrain these are my go to. (this was my experience after 2 pairs and I will buy them again and again)

Best for long-distance, steep and rocky hikes. Maximum foot protection and extremely durable. Great support for a heavy pack
Salomon Quest 4Gtx High Rise Boot
Great lighter weight boot. Ready to wear right out of the box. Good for medium distance hikes
Great shoe/boot for day hikes and light packs. The low Ultra allows for the option of running the trail if the mood strikes and has the traction and support of a boot. Not recommended for heavy packs or long distance.
Packs
Osprey packs are by far my favorite. I have been using them exclusively for the last 10 years. They fit well, are intelligently designed and can take a beating. Here are a few I use depending on the trip.
Weather Gear
You can plan, train and be ready for any hike, but the one thing you can't control is the weather. Having the right gear can change a dangerous storm into a good story. Always be prepared!
For me there is no other all weather jacket. I keep this in my pack no matter where I go, it has saved me on numerous occasions. The Beta AR is lightweight, extremely well made and folds up small. Forget the price tag, its worth every penny.
These are not the toughest rain pant out there, but they get the job done. Super lightweight and with the protection of the jacket above, they are all I need.
