Thailand

Thailand is an amazing country that should be thoroughly explored. The crazy cities and nightlife are fun, but the true beauty lies in its nature and culture. Take the time to look past the flashing lights and see the heart of Thailand.

Khao Sok National Park

Khao Sok is one the the most beautiful and wild places I have been blessed to explore. I spent three days in a floating cabin surrounded by amazing scenery, people and food. The days were spent on boats, hiking through the jungle and kayaking around the serenity of the lake.

Chaing Mai

Chaing Mai is a small city in the north of Thailand. It's full of Buddahist temples, beautiful mountains and lush greenery. Below is a list of fun things to do there

Hang with Elephants

There are many tours you can take. It is my advice not to use any that still allow the riding of elephants. This one was spectacular. The guides were amazing and the day also included lunch,  a jungle hike and a swim under a waterfall.

Take a Cooking Class

Learn to cook classic Thai dishes with a local chef. The evening starts with a trip to a massive local market that will amaze you. Fresh ingredients are gathered and its off to the kitchen to start cooking. Eating as you go, making new friends and sharing some laughs all added up to a great experience.

Visit the Temples

Visit local shrines and temples. They are all unique and hold various art and artifacts. Be sure to adhere to dress codes where required.

Eat Everything

Well, almost everything. I would advise not to order anything raw from the street vendors as you may soon may regret it. Everything else though, chow down! The food here in the north has different flavors and styles than the rest of the country. For example
Sai ua was probably the best sausage I've had throughout all of my travels and is only found here. Don't be shy, try it all!

Enjoy Local Festivals

Look for events and happenings before you leave for your trip. We inadvertently found ourselves in Chaing Mai on the King's birthday. There were lots of performances and and special events that were an unexpected bonus to our stay!

Phuket

Phuket is a large island in the South of Thailand. It's beautiful, mountainous and calling your name. The island differs greatly as you go. There are small peaceful towns and there are party places. Patong Beach is wild. The strip there makes Vegas look tame. 2 nights were plenty for me there. I spent the other nights in a quiet resort and found a Michelin star restaurant to entertain us. That was nice. There is no shortage of activities, it just depends what you're in the mood for.

Phi Phi Island

Phi Phi Island is a blast! Beautiful scenery, exciting nightlife and great food! Below are a few recommendations.

Take a Boat Tour

There are tons of boats going out daily. I highly reccomend spending a day on the water. You can see the beach from the movie The Beach, feed wild monkeys, swimming, its a great day!

Get a Tattoo

There are tattoo shops on every corner. The bonus here is that they use a single bamboo needle which is far less painful and heals very quickly. No Scabbing or even being sore. I was able to go swimming the next day.

Party on the Beach

There is no shortage of night clubs and bars. One even has live kickboxing and if you're feeling brave enough the will let you fight other patrons in the ring. Other spots have fire shows, its definitely a fun place to let loose
